چکیده

In the present paper we shall study (2 + 1) dimensional ZN gauge theories on a lattice. It is shown that the gauge theories have two phases, one is a Higgs phase and the other is a confinement phase. We investigate low-energy excitation modes in the Higgs phase and clarify relationship between the ZN gauge theories and Kitaev’s model for quantum memory and quantum computations. Then we study effects of random gauge couplings(RGC) which are identified with noise and errors in quantum computations by Kitaev’s model. By using a duality transformation, it is shown that timeindependent RGC give no significant effects on the phase structure and the stability of quantum memory and computations. Then by using the replica methods, we study ZN gauge theories with time-dependent RGC and show that nontrivial phase transitions occur by the RGC.

Simulating lattice gauge theories on a quantum computer

We examine the problem of simulating lattice gauge theories on a universal quantum computer. The basic strategy of our approach is to transcribe lattice gauge theories in the Hamiltonian formulation into a Hamiltonian involving only Pauli spin operators such that the simulation can be performed on a quantum computer using only one and two qubit manipulations. We examine three models, the U(1), ...

Classical Lattice Gauge Field with Hard Thermal Loops

We propose a formulation of gauge theories at finite temperature on a lattice in Minkowski space, including the effects of hard thermal loops on the dynamics of the long wavelength modes. Our approach is based on the dual classical limits of quantum fields as waves and particles in the infrared and ultraviolet limits, respectively, and exhibits manifest invariance under space-dependent lattice ...

Quantum Link Models: a Discrete Approach to Gauge Theories *

We construct lattice gauge theories in which the elements of the link matrices are represented by non-commuting operators acting in a Hilbert space. These quantum link models are related to ordinary lattice gauge theories in the same way as quantum spin models are related to ordinary classical spin systems. Here U(1) and SU(2) quantum link models are constructed explicitly. As Hamiltonian theor...

Four-dimensional lattice chiral gauge theories with anomalous fermion content

In continuum field theory, it has been discussed that chiral gauge theories with Weyl fermions in anomalous gauge representations (anomalous gauge theories) can consistently be quantized, provided that some of gauge bosons are permitted to acquire mass. Such theories in four dimensions are inevitablly non-renormalizable and must be regarded as a low-energy effective theory with a finite ultravi...

We reformulate the Hamiltonian approach to lattice gauge theories such that, at the classical level, the gauge group does not act canonically, but instead as a Poisson-Lie group. At the quantum level, it then gets promoted to a quantum group gauge symmetry. The theory depends on two parameters-the deformation parameter and the lattice spacing a. We show that the system of Kogut and Susskind is ...
